Funding and Bursaries
The AgriFood ATP is able to help fund your studies if you meet our eligibility criteria.
If you are a UK resident and are employed by a company that has an R&D or manufacturing presence in the UK agrifood sector*, you are likely to be eligible for a bursary to help fund your course fee.
50% bursaries are currently available for short courses which run in 2016 (subject to funding availability).
* The 'agrifood sector' is defined as 'an enterprise engaged in and/or providing services to businesses in agriculture, the manufacture of farm machinery and equipment, the processing of food and drink and the wholesale and retail activities associated with food and drink.'
To be eligible for a bursary, you must work for more than 7 hours per week in an organisation that has a site in the United Kingdom and that meets the above criteria.
If you do not qualify for a bursary, for example if you are currently not working in the agrifood sector, or if you do not meet the residence criteria, then you may still be able to acquire funding through the AgriFood Charities Partnership (AFCP) who offer assistance in finding other sources of funding.
How do bursaries work for Postgraduate Awards?
Postgraduate Awards are our full accredited qualifications such as PGCert and MSc. Applicants can start these awards at three points throughout the academic year – September, January and April.
50% bursaries will be offered for AgriFood ATP postgraduate programmes with a start-date in 2016.
Why do I need to complete a form if I wish to receive a bursary?
The AgriFood ATP will use your form to check your eligibility and as a record of your bursary award. We need to ensure both you and your company comply with eligibility requirements stipulated by our funding body (BBSRC) and the EU state aid rules.
In order to comply with EU state aid rules both the AgriFood ATP (the bursary funder) and the bursary recipient (your company) need to keep clear and concise records for audit purposes.
In case of EU audit, companies must keep copies of bursary records for at least 10 years.
How many forms do I need to complete?
Each employee attending a training course will need to complete our online Course Application Form for every course they wish to gain a bursary for.
In order for us to award the maximum bursary amount, we may also ask that you or a colleague within your company complete a 'Company Information Form'. If this is required, we will email this to you after we have received your application form.
What is the likelihood that my application will be successful?
Since we have started offering bursaries in January 2012, almost all companies have had their bursary applications approved irrespective of their size if they are a UK based organisation.
Bursaries are offered under either the 'de minimis' rules or the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER). If your company is not eligible under the de minimis scheme we will calculate your level of bursary award under the GBER rules using your answers to questions in the Course Application Form and Company Information Form.
Will the bursary cover travel expenses?
Our bursaries only help to fund the cost of the tuition fee, and do not cover extra expenses such as transport or accommodation.
